In the midst of a national maternity care crisis, experts are calling for better integration of midwives in the health care system.
However, Anna Jaques Hospital just implemented a policy change that limits access to midwives and denies women their provider of choice during childbirth. We must ensure women’s rights in childbirth, including the right to midwifery care in every birth setting.
America spends more money on health care than any other developed country yet has the highest maternal and infant mortality rates. The shameful gaps between health outcomes for black and white women and infants continue to grow. Care by midwives results in fewer unnecessary medical interventions, better health outcomes, reduced health disparities, and higher levels of patient satisfaction. Midwives are the solution
